Payback
System:
For many years, winners
of a 1-horse class took home lots more money than winners of,
New for example, a 5-horse class. The problem was this: futurity/maturity
money in each division (PB and HA/AA) was divided equally among the
classes. For example, if there was $1,000 in the PB halter futurity,
and five classes had entries, each class would get $200. Then the $200
was divided to placings in each class according to the percentages in
the futurity rules, which are:
One (1) horse : 100%
of allotted money
Two (2) horses: 60%,
40% of allotted money
Three (3) horses:
50%, 30%, 20% of allotted money
Four (4) horses: 40%,
30%, 20%, 10% of allotted money
Five (5) horses:
35%, 25%, 20%, 12.5%, 7.5% of allotted money
Starting in 2007, the payback
system was altered as follows. Money in each division will be divided
proportionally among the classes, based on the number of horses and
classes held. Then the allotted money for each class will be divided
to placings according to the percentages currently in the futurity
rules. For example, suppose there is $1,000 in the PB halter futurity,
and five classes have a total of 16 entries. Divide $1,000 by 16 to
get $62.50 per entry. Each class will be allotted $62.50 per entry,
and paybacks calculated, as follows:
